very surprising indeed, esp since the weather is cool and rainy ...

i turned 22, but many will testify that i'm still the same ...

that day was the most peculiar day for me ...
i woke up in a state so sad i almost cried ...
i dreamt that i had pancreatic cancer ...
and the doctor told me that i only had 1 mth to live ...
it was strange that this guy i knew from back in 1st yr uni was the one who was with me and the only one who knew, as he was just some senior i barely spoke to ...
so the 2 of us broke the news to my mother ...
and i reckon the sadness that i felt mainly came from seeing a my mother cry ...
not the fact that i was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer ...

i got ready to head off to the hospital despite the sad feeling i was trying to shake off ...
i sat at the bus stop & this doubtful question hit me ...
see, previously when i was living at jesmond ...
the bus which was full of school students would empty out at the stop before mine and so i had plenty of seats to choose from when i got on ...
but now, getting on at uni drive is a completely different story ...
i always end up standing right next to the bus driver clinging to his door for dear life whenever he cornered ...
so i sat at the bus stop with a mind conflict ...
my heart told me to pray & ask for a seat on the bus ...
but my mind told me, what are the chances? you know for sure there will be not a seat on the bus ...
every morning it is jam-packed! are you trying to test god?
and so i sat there, wondering if i shud or shud not pray ...
7:55am came & went, which was when the bus was scheduled to arrive ...
and before i knew it, it was 8:15am and i was running back to the hse, pounding on the door & making sandra drive me to the hospital ...
the bus never came ...
great answer to my question god ...

lately i've been really tired, dizzy & having headaches whilst on the wards ...
i went in to review one of my patients, a middle-aged woman ...
opposite her was an elderly man who apparently had been waiting to get a scan done since 2 days ago, poor thing ...
i glanced back at him & saw him clad in a white hospital gown clearly not wearing anything underneath ...
i saw his back that's how i know ...
as i continued reviewing my patient, the nurse came in and told the man to get ready for he was finally going for his scan ...
just as the nurse left, i decided to glance back & see his reaction ...
CRIKEY!
the man had pulled off his hospital gown & stood next to his bed stark naked ...

i wandered back to the n&d office to do some assessment ...
lately i've mastered power-walking up & down the corridor on the 2nd floor ...
however, sometimes it is impossible to when there are 2 hospital beds being pushed one after another, some poor guy on crutches, a family with screaming toddlers and oh much more ...
as i'm typing this, i'm recalling this girl walking in front of me ...
she had this slow swagger like all the world can wait for her to strut down the corridor ...
she was wearing sweat pants with the words ELMO GROUPIE splashed across her bum ...
and then it struck me, made-up cartoon/puppet characters are just as popular as celebrities ...
damn it, i shud just be make-believe then ...
seriously, elmo groupie?!? are we gonnabe idolising fast food & snack items (oreo groupie! hell no) ...

it's finally lunchtime & i decide to use the internet at the student library ...
i look out the windows and lo & behold guess wat ...
mcdonalds is giving free food on the hospital grounds ...
how awesome is that, so much for health & healthy eating *shakes head*

that's how the 1st half of my day is like ...
time for me to say goodbye to john hunter & hello mater :(

i need some time off to relax & just laze around!!!

i've just finished my first week of placement at the john hunter hospital doing my clinical placement as required to complete my degree ...

on friday at 4:45pm sharp, all 4 of us exited the hospital waving our folders shouting, "it's the weekend!" ...

placement is so full on & w/o company from the 4 of us, we would not survive :(

1 week down, 9 more to go

10 things i have done this week :-
1) learnt to catch the bus on my own
2) walk out on my own
3) feed an elderly patient
4) followed a dietary technical assistant
5) been in the nephrology/gastroenterology ward (ppl with kidney & liver issues)
6) learnt how to mix infant formulas & feeds for patients
7) learnt how to use a pager
8) had an overdose of sandra's, lawrence's & jaemie's company (you know i love you guys!)
9) finally witnessed the landing & take-off of a helicopter at the hospital
10) really looked forward to the weekend :)

i don't want the weekend to end, so not wanting to bring on week/round two of the hospital ...

let's get on to the topic of change shall we ...
i guess we all know that some changes are good & some are NOT so good ...

on monday i met one of my friends at the uni library ...
which is rather rare cos i'm hardly ever at the library, hahahah ...
he told me he was moving out of ih on friday and then the following tuesday he was leaving to another country 4 placement ...
basically the whole point of our conversation was he wanted me to help him with something ...
he wanted me to look after his gf whilst he was away ...
his gf currently attends my bible study & i've gotten to know her better thru the many camps we've both attended over the past yr ...
and after he asked me that, he started on the whole how it felt to be leaving & for the other who was gonnabe left behind ...

i'd discovered this back in 2007 & 2008 when i myself experienced the left behind-ness & the leaving to a new place ...
and in my opinion, being left behind is far worst than setting out alone to a new place ...
the amount of adapting & stuff you hafta overcome is massive ...
for me, it was horrible bcos i was in the same place but the ppl who were there with me b4 weren't there ...
so at the end of 2006, after college yr ...
all my classmates started to travel overseas 4 uni ...
but i had decided 2 remain in m'sia the following yr b4 going overseas ...
and i remember at the start of 2007, i regretted completely ...
i had chosen to start my degree program in the same college ...
so you can imagine, i was walking thru all the same corridors & classrooms but only this time i was alone ...
everywhere i glanced i wud be like, 'oh i used to sit there with ------- in btw classes' and '------- used to sit here & stone thru lunchtime' ...
one word, h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e :(
and at the beginning of 2008 when it was finally my turn to leave ...
i was probably upset a whole mth b4 my flight ...
majorly cos i'd grown really attached to a bunch of youths at charlene's church & also the youths at my church ...
and when i was on the plane taking off, i remember opening the msg box my friends had made 4 me and i had tears streaming down my face as i read each of the msges ...
but you know wat, i didn't feel as bad as i had previously when i was left behind ...
i dunno, guess that's just my opinion ...
so yeah, being left behind is horrible :(

i think this song has been my theme song for the past 5 weeks ...
it's taken from the soundtrack 4 the movie 'the sisterhood of the traveling pants' ...

so the story goes like this ...
once upon a time ...
there lived a fish in the river called blakie ...
he was swimming along the river bank ...
it wasn't long b4 he caught sight of his mouse friend, jojo ...
jojo, one of blakie's best friends, was looking quite nervous standing at the edge of the river bank ...
"what's wrong, jojo?" blakie called out ...
"i want to go swimming but i'm afraid of the water", jojo answered ...
and this is wat blakie said to jojo ...
"there's nothing to be afraid of, jojo ... look at me, i've been swimming for a very long time ... why don't you jump in the water & hold on 2 my tail ... that way you will be safe ... i promise i won't swim too fast as i don't want to lose you ... you are one of my best friends ... afterall, you do want to swim really badly right?"
yeah but blakie wasn't really thinking when he answered jojo, did he?
just because he told jojo there's nothing to be afraid of, how does jojo know he's telling the truth ... he obviously told her not to be afraid cos that's probably what he thought she wanted to hear ... but why didn't he tell her about the larger fish in the river? did he 4get? or maybe he just thought it was just swimming & other creatures didn't exist in the water when u're swimming & having a good time, tough luck! ... wat happens if he gets distracted and swims off? or if he suddenly didn't feel like having jojo grip his tail 2 swim around anymore ... he didn't think that maybe the current of the waters might change & jojo might lose grip of his tail, which was out of his control ... or jojo would suddenly lose courage & let go of his tail, which he also had no control over ... and just because jojo wants to swim, it didn't mean that she was willing to risk her life just 4 that moment of fun ... sumtimes you hafta weigh the pros & cons ... and just because jojo said she wanted to, doesn't mean she has to ...

finally, the post bout jay chou's concert :)
no we didn't travel very faraway ...
but this was probably one of the best songs i luvved bout the nite ...
we just went to sydney ...
but one wud ask, y was i there?
i can't read chinese, i can't speak chinese & i can't understand chinese ...
well, the story goes ...
me, cheryl & shulin bought the concert ticket as a birthday gift 4 jennifer ...
then we figured that it was quite pointless giving jennifer a ticket & expecting her to go alone ...
so me & cheryl decided to get tickets as well, whereas shulin went partying in nz ...

we got pretty good seats actually ...
at the side but very near to the stage ...

that was what the ticket looked like ...
and some phone company had jay chou's face on a phone sim card ...

we spent 3 days & 2 nites in sydney ...
we obviously didn't go down just 4 the concert ...
food & shopping was on our mind too ...
this was on the last day at a japanese restaurant ...

all thru the trip we had chinese (dim sum), korean, thai, malaysian (which was really bad), japanese, i'm not sure if we had annything else ...
oh and plenty of milk tea fr easy way :)

we walked around the city heaps ...

and played in the hotel room at night ...
or rather midnite ...
val, anne, jennifer, cheryl & me ...

val & anne went 4 the concert too when they heard we were going ...
but they had separate seats as they bought their tickets separately...

plenty of camwhoring as well ...

i'm just about to go into week 3 of my semester & i alredi feel like my battery has died ...
wat is happening??? seriously!!!
i have had sum form of activity to attend to every evening ...
there's not one day i'm just in my room doing wat i want ...
i constantly have to run thru my mind wat activity i've got to be at & at wat time everyday ...
which is putting my daily planner to its full use ...
but it's wearing me out badly ...
mind you we're not talking bout activities related 2 uni work here ...

we just had our barahineban (my residential college) version of masterchef ...
masterchef has been really huge in australia ...
we just finished our 1st season on tv ...

so here jess & stu have revealed the core ingredients to the participants in the common room ...
the core ingredients are tinned tomatos & coconut milk ...

you shud not be surprised that my roomate, val took part in the competition ...

i'm back in the luvly 29 degrees all yr round country, malaysia :)
yes, the place i call home ...
happily walking the streets in my shorts & tshirts ...
worrying bout jackets & the weather can wait rite now ...

the 1st thing that hit me when i walked outta the arrival gate was ...
damn, this is not klia ... where am i???
and then i realised i was at klia-lcct ...
apparently this is where the low cost airlines land & take-off ...
i had no idea cos i've always been flying with mas b4 this ...
yes, the brat in me shows clearly when it comes to flights ...
but for a really good reason!
turbulence with budget airlines is t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e ...
i thought i was gonna throw up when my jetstar flight landed in melb airport ...
airasia wasn't as bad as jetstar but still bad ...

anyway, the first few days back have been pretty normal ...
it's nice to see lazy fat cats lazing around the neighbourhood again ...
instead of ducks, possums & lizards ...
nearly fell in2 one of the squatting toilets at church ...
well i've always been pretty bad at using them ...
i think it's cos i have a foot problem ...
you know how like when you place ur foot flat on the ground ...
sum ppl's foot is really flat on the ground whereas others aren't actually flat as they shud be ...
anyway, i got to see joseph & melvin who are probably sum of the main ppl i wanna see ...
they're both still the same, i guess ...
been eating heaps as well (nasi lemak, egg rolls etc.) ...

this holiday is kinda different from last yr's summer one ...
besides the point that 2 of my best friends aren't here ...
it's more of a breather fr uni then a vacation ...
like i don't have a list of planned things i wanna get done ...
or traveling plans with my frens ...
so yeah, it's funny but alrite ...
looking fwd to seeing my grandparents in penang this weekend though ...

about 10 days after my birthday, i threw my party ...
i had 3 days to plan & put tgthr everything after my exams ...

me & my roomate, val came up with this idea a week b4 our final exams ...

the campsite was just 50mins away from newcastle ...
this was where we slept ...

and we were just 50m away from the lake ...

it was furnished pretty well ...
there was a table tennis area which was outside the guys' rooms ...

we arrived and started the night off with games ...
me & joyce came up with this newspaper modeling game ...

there was also a pool table ...

i got to know allycia a bit more over camp eventho she was busy with assignments ...

the music sessions that me & jon put tgthr went alrite ...
this is session two with me on the keyboard :)
the talks dene gave were awesome ...
they reminded me bout who jesus was and why i had decided to believe in him ...
sumtime we get so carried away with daily living that we 4get bout things ...
the final nite's panel was just as awesome, in my opinion ...

during the free time slot on saturday ...
most of us took a trip down to 'caves beach' ...

well this is just a continuation of my mid-sem break ...
i went down to sydney a 2nd time just to visit the sydney fish market ...
this time i went with the boys, jonathan & junshoong ...
i accidentally updated the photos in the reverse order ...
heheheh, so just bear with it ...

i finally bought the stuffed toy that i've wanted since 2 yrs ago ...
meet LUIGI, he's french :)
in case u're wondering, he's a lobster ...

we had dessert at some awesome cafe, i can't remember the name ...

junshoong and me, whilst jonathan got his hair cut ...

i never fail to stop by easyway when i'm in sydney 4 my green apple green tea *slurp*

me, cheryl, desiree & suzie caught a train to sydney to spend a day at the easter show ...

me & cheryl on the train at 7 sumthin in the morning, insane ...

i was listening to music on my phone whilst she was watching a drama on hers ...

we were starving upon arrival & so we had dim sum ...
i don't have the photos tho ...
then we did sum grocery shopping (yes, the asian shops in nc suck big time!) ...

we only got to the easter show past 3pm ...
they had lotsa rides & stuff ...

plenty of booth games ...
i wanted to win a big stuff toy badly :(

so now the mid-sem break really kicks in ...
every1 has gone away 4 the holidays & so my residential area is really quiet ...

among all my frens, i decided to stay back ...
2 of my frens were originally s'posed 2 come visit but it didn't work out ...

charlene & sheela went 2 melbourne ...
val (my roomate) & morni went 2 sydney ...
jennifer & shulin will also be going to sydney ...
so every1 will be back by friday ...
till then, it's just me :(

anyway, me & jonathan went over to brendan's hse 4 dinner last nite ...

tomorrow marks 3 weeks since i returned to uni in nc ...
everything has been pretty laid-back ...
with my 3 days (mon-wed) of class & 4 days off ...
tomorrow, which will be my 4th week, is gonna knock me off my feet ...

an additional class on friday ...
with 2 assignments due the following week ...
sigh!

i'm starting to get a bit worried bout a few ppl ...
in relation to their spiritual lives ...
at this point i've just left them alone ...
i don't wanna keep calling them ...
but i think after awhile i should say something ...
but then i'll feel that i'm not in the position to ...
cos by that time, i won't be as close as i used to be to those ppl ...
maybe in this case prayer will work ...

it's been a week since i returned to uni back in newcastle ...
and it's definitely been a crazy week ...
i noe, 1st week rite? wat stress ...
i hate it when you go 4 intro lectures & they give you the whole everything-you-hafta-do-2-pass-this-course talk ...
it's too overwhelming for 2 hrs ...
the worst thing 2 hear is "if you dun pass this subject, you can't move on to next semester" ...
which literally means you get barred 4 a yr ...
waste 6 mths & repeat just tt particular subject the following yr ...
do you feel my frustration & stress yet?

and to make things worse ...

my faithful lappie crashed!!!

all my videos, photos, songs & games are totally wiped out ...
y didn't i listen 2 daddeee & make back-ups ...
aspire had a virus, poor baby :(
luckily weiyang fixed her in just one nite ...
but i hate looking at her now cos she's so bare, empty, foreign ...

so rite after cny, my family went away 2 terengganu 4 a holiday ...
i can't remember the name of the place we stayed at ...
but i think it was called the lake kenyir resort ...
this is wat reception looked like ...
out in an open are sits a desk & chair but nobody ...
see the phone on the desk ...
you hafta dial a number & sum1 will come get you ...
you hafta take one of these buggies to the front desk to check in ...
and these buggies take you all over the resort ...
to your room, dining lounge, activities, etc. etc. ...
i just had to take a pic of this lonely fella at the lobby ...
there was like sum sorta deer farm in the resort ...
then me & my sista found the swimming pool ...
and so we decided to go 4 a swim ...
didn't do much on the first nite since we just arrived ...
we wanted to plan activities 4 the next day ...
me lazing around the piano in the lobby :)
so the next day my family went 4 a boat ride around the lake ...
it's a huge amazing lake, really ...
i took this shot to show you where we stayed ...
as in the rooms are mostly at the water edge ...
cool rite?
we stopped by this island called the herbal island ...
they grow all the tongkat ali stuff here ...
then we went to play in a nearby waterfall ...
we were on our way there on foot & came across this ...
hundreds of millipedes strewn all over the path ...
and we found the giant mama of all millipedes *gag*
so we reached the waterfall & walked around ...
and took loads of pics :)
we went canoeing as well but cudn't take pics ...
i think i'm getting pretty good at it as it was my 3rd time *beam*
the following day was time 2 go ...
it's quite a pretty resort :)

well, semester is starting in 3 days time ...
and i've got a plane 2 catch, update l8er!

i traveled back 2 penang on the 1st day of cny ...
cos my dad's family is in kl ...
but mom's family is in penang ...
and as tradition follows, the family has 2 eat the reunion dinner at the father's side ...

when we reached penang, we had another big home-cooked dinner ...
all the cousins on my mom's side ...
missing the eldest one tho ...

the next day, a bunch of us went out with ruth ...
she's my mom's cousin's daughter ...
so she's part of the extended relatives ...
me, alicia & ruth (i think the 2 are the same age)
we watched 'bedtime stories' ...
for me, it was again ...
then we had lunch at tgif ...
us with the mac & cheese ...
then at nite we had dinner at the restaurant ...
and then camwhored at andrea's hse ...

i know that the title of this blog greatly suggests that i'm a music fanatic but you don't see much reviews or rather any reviews at all. well, all of that's gonna change today. cos i think this band deserves my time and a write-up on my blog. it's the script. this band hails from dublin, ireland & consists of 3 people. Danny O'Donoghue as the lead vocalist and keyboardist, Mark Sheehan the guitarist (vocals too) and Glen Power the drummer (vocals too). the band was released in august 2008 and already have 3 hit singles :-

my first weekend back, pengchui & jinfoong got married ...
i was just in time 4 their wedding ...
amie & i at the wedding dinner ...

2 weeks l8er, i joined the fellow yf-ers to camp in the highlands ...
it was my 1st time coming back 2 yf as a helper ( you get kicked outta yf @ 19yrs of age) ...
and let me tell you, it was a life-changing experience ...
things din go according 2 plan ...
i found myself in charge of a grp of lost 15-17yr olds who just had so many things going on with their lives ...
they were such an inquisitive yet confused bunch ...
at the end of camp i was glad and really amazed at the way god works *serious nod*
jialing, xianjing & me in the camp shirts ...
you wanna noe an amazing fact?
the age difference btw me & them is 7yrs!

then 2 weeks l8er, it was christmas!
the time 2 eat turkey & have gift exchanges?
well yeah, that's wat happens but there's another side of it ...
this yr was also my 1st yr not being in the choir ...
and so i had the privilege of sitting back & enjoying the whole service like everyone else ...
christmas has nvr been so real to me until that day ...
i luvved the msg the speaker delivered that morn ...
it was so clear cut ...
not buttered up or creamed 2 make an individual feel good ...
christmas 08 was really good!
joseph, me, jeeleng & suming with the backdrop ...

rite after christmas, my family went travelling ...
we went state-hopping on christmas eve & the day after ...
so on christmas eve i was in perak & pahang ...
the day after, i was in kelantan & penang ...
so in penang, i met up with sandra ...

and i also met up with jim ...

i came back 4 new yr & met up with jaemie ...

then brendan calls & says he's in kl, so i brought him out with my frens ...

and then i went to singapore & met up with him ...

next week is gonnabe cny ...
so my family's gonnabe on the road again, hahahah ...

i'm definitely missing val & our rommie times ...
us being nosy bout our neighbours fighting downstairs ...

spent last nite talking 2 lawrence for 30mins on the phone ...
met keejun & msged him all thru the early hrs of the morn till he boarded the plane ...
watched aussie idol finale with jonathan & dene ...
studied nutrition till 1am ...
watched my roomate fall asleep whilst i was on the phone at half past 10 & woke up 8hrs (fr 1am) l8er to find her still sleeping , wth ...

shelley & me, we finished exams today :)
gonna miss shelley cos she's staying a yr behind in our course ...

lawrence will still be around & probably the 1st one i'll see back here next yr ...

jaemie's going off to tamworth next semester 4 placement ...

and as 4 keejun ... gone, 4ever?
he's transferred credit to anu in canberra ...
guess we just nvr noe when things are gonna happen ...

our last nite of fun tgthr in newcastle ...
it seems like we all just met yesterday ...
but frenship lasts 4ever rite?

today marks the start of exams ...
whilst others have just finished their exam period ...
mine has just begun ...
y? cos life's just like that ...

i just hate this feeling ...
